Background Info:

The Camacho Liberty 2009 line of cigars is a custom blend from Christian Eiroa. Using special Habano tobacco that is Camacho’s only Habano and aged for two years since they were originally rolled back in 2007. This cigar is touted as a medium to full-bodied experience. Each cigar is numbered and given it’s own cedar coffin. There were only 40,000 of these produced and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a box.

Mission Notes:

As we come to the end of another day, there is a little bit of Autumn in the air. It’s nice and cool and the sun is setting along with a gentle breeze and it is definitely football time here in PA.

Appearance and first impressions:

The wrapper has a dark brown and slightly oily appearance and feels strong in construction. There are a few small veins in the leaf, but overall it has a solid look and feel. First whiffs of the foot and wrapper gives off a slight cedar smell mixed with a hint of earth. This will be my third Liberty 2009.

Today’s pairing:

Pairing today’s Camacho Liberty 2009 with a cold Dos Equis Amber cerveza.

From the first light through the first few puffs, I get a real woodsy taste. You can taste the cedar this aged in, along with some earthy undertones. It has started very smooth from the first light. A nice creamy finish to each puff. I am feeling a bit aggro tonight, so our music starts on the aggressive side with some Gallows.

As I get through the 1st third of the Liberty ‘09, the taste has really evolved into a nice toasted cedar finish with hints of espresso and earth inside. At this point, I would call this a strong, medium bodied smoke. The smoke coming off this cigar is a nice off-white color and thick and creamy. It is burning perfectly and the draw is strong. I am not feeling quite as aggro, that is always a good thing when I smoke, so we are moving on to the Alkaline Trio.

Now we are over halfway through the Camacho Liberty 2009 and the taste has stayed consistent. I am enjoying the woodsy taste still. The burnt espresso undertone is still there and I like it. I am starting to feel this cigar in my head just a little bit, so I would say that it is moving closer into the full-bodied range, but still medium and not in any way overpowering. I did hit one little burn issue, but was able to let it catch itself up with no need for a re-light. We’re staying with the Alkaline Trio on this one, it just feels like that kind of smoke.

As I dig into the last third, the taste is still consistent as ever. This surprises me, mainly because most cigars I smoke have a definitive taste pattern that kind of moves around as you get through the cigar. The woodsy taste along with some espresso and earth has stayed with me throughout the cigar. It is still just a touch under full-bodied and very enjoyable. No more burn issues came up and the Liberty has been smooth start to finish.

Final Statement:

The Camacho Liberty 2009 is a very enjoyable and consistent smoke. I attribute the consistency to the high quality tobaccos used, especially the Habano wrapper. Also the aging process helps it mesh into a high quality smoke. I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar and  I recommend it for all types of cigar smokers looking for a great cigar for any time of the day!
