Rocky Patel Decade Robusto

Cigar Transmission #026

My name is Agent 10.  My mission was to review the Decade Robusto, by Rocky Patel. As an asset of The Cigar Spy agency I promise to respect the A.S.H.E.S. code of honor. These are the facts. This is my debriefing.

Target Vitals

Vitola: Robusto
Ring Gauge: 50
Length: 5.00
Wrapper: Ecuadorian
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Nicaraguan

Box of Cigars at Tex Cigars: 164.99 for 20

Background:

The Rocky Patel Decade line was created to celebrate Rocky Patel’s 10th year of making cigars. These cigars carry plenty of ligero filler that brings a super – spicy smoke with hearty notes of toasted wood. The aftertaste of this cigar is mostly tobacco flavored. Don’t pass these up. The Rocky Patel Decade Robusto is sure to be one of your favorites. – Tex Cigars

Many thanks to my friends as Tex Cigars for providing the target for this review!!

Mission Notes:

Appearance/Construction: This target has a seemingly flawless Ecuadorian wrapper. No veins were noticed and a nice thick sheen from the oils gleamed in the right light. After clipping I found the target had a good draw, possibly slightly more resistant than i would have liked, but nothing to cry home about. The foot smelled of nothing more then well aged tobacco screaming to be smoked. With that, I began the interrogation.

Flavors: Right off the bat- the first puff even- I tasted warm brown sugar. It had a sweet, syrupy taste with a medium body mouth feel that made you feel like you could almost chew the smoke. The Brown sugar subsided, and a sweet earthy flavor took it’s place. Slight spice was noticed when retro-haled through the nose. The burn was OK- uneven, but do-able.  At about the start of the 2nd third, a slightly grassy taste introduced itself. This is where the target took a turn.

The grassy taste built in strength- something I did not care for. At about the halfway mark, a got a flavor that could only really be described as “ink from a ball point pen”. My mouth had a bitter taste with a bile like burn in my throat. I tried to smoke it a little more, but I couldn’t stand it any longer; I know defeat when I see it and had to put the cigar down.

Final Statements:

The first half of this cigar wowed me- I really had high expectations for it. Like a Succubus it lured me in, seducing me with it’s explicit promises and wanton glances. Then, when fully enthralled it turned on me to rip out my heart and toss it into a fiery abyss…

OK, so it may have not been JUST like that, but I can tell you I was disappointed at how this cigar turned out. I hope I had a dud, because I really want to like this cigar. Unfortunately, as of now I cannot recommend it.

Thanks for tuning in, and until next time:

Clean Cuts and Thick Smoke, Everyone!
