Camacho Candela

Camacho Candela

Yes, you heard me right. Candela. No, that picture isn’t photoshopped; this cigar has a green wrapper! This is the kind of stogie The Hulk could enjoy! So without further ado, I present The Camacho Candela.

Cigar: Camacho Candela Monarca

Size: 5 x 50

Wrapper: Candela

Binder: Honduran

Filler: Honduran

Body: Mild-Med.

Appearence: This jolly green giant has a silky smooth wrapper that is very well constructed. Very few veins can be seen and its all topped off with a bright green cap. Other than the color (which reminds me of brussel sprouts) this is a beautifully made cigar.

Pre-light: I used a punch cut on this guy; I found the draw to be extremely loose. I know I would have to smoke this thing slowly in order to prevent “hot boxing” it. The dry taste was that of parsley.

Flavors: To sum it up in a word: bitter. The honduran tobacco ( which, to my taste is a slightly mted tobacco flavor and tends to be a bit boring) was over powered by the taste of a bitter, leafy sort of flavor. Reminded me of eating grass or leaves (don’t ask.) Honestly, it tasted like this cigar was picked too early from it’s blossoming cigar tree. (Ah if only cigars grew on trees…)

Overall: It being my first Candela cigar, the Camacho Monarca didn’t go over that well. Unless you like eating fresh leaves, grass, and happen to be a goat, then this cigar is probably not for you. If you do happen to fit the above description, this cigars can be found at Cigar International.

I hope everyone has a pleasant week, and until next time,

Happy Smoking!

I got 2 or 3 of these in a churchill size in a Camacho sampler once upon a time. Tried one, thinking for some reason that green=sweet (don’t know where I got that idea from), and was sorely dissapointed. I think this may have been the first cigar I’d ever had that I stopped smoking due to it’s bad flavor/aroma. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like this profile, but I wonder how many people would be willing to give it a try to begin with?

Spot on Agent 10! Keep’em coming.

    Agent 10,

My Spy vitamins ingredients list is as follows: Goat oil, cigar tree extract, grass bits, and traces of Hulk Smash. I hope I don’t become green and bitter. Time to back off the dosage.

    Great review!

I always smoke one of these on St. Patrick’s Day. People are always amazed that I have a green cigar.

Anyway, mine had been aging in the humidor for about 2 years. There was some spice after the first 10 puffs. Leather after-taste in the back of the mouth. But then it mellowed out in the middle and enjoyed it the whole rest of the evening.
