OLIVA SERIE O
Strength: Medium to Full
Wrapper: Sun Grown Habano
Binder: Nicaragua Habano
Filler: Nicaragua Habano
Style: Robusto
Like most Olivas, the wrapper is smooth and beautiful in color. No noticeable veins and its almost in perfect condition. The label is a simple, but yet elegant band with a nice color scheme to fit the cigar. Oliva has a great presentation time after time, but lets find out about the important stuff, shall we?
The Oliva O smells like a mix of sweet tobacco and pepper. Not a very strong pepper , but u can still smell it. The foot smells amazing, almost like a very sugary cup of tea. The pre draw was almost too loose, but we’ll have to wait and see how it smokes to make a final decision. It also left a very peppery tingle on my lips, not a good sign. This agent, is not a fan of spicy targets.
The first puffs of the Oliva O are extremely spicy and peppery mixed with a little cocoa flavors. It’s not a great start for me because the spice over powers the flavors. Not much changes from the beginning to about the half way point. Still lots of pepper on the palate, but this time mixed with a more dark earthy tone and not that cocoa flavor. By the time I made it to the last third of the cigar, I put it out. This cigar has nothing good to offer my palate in the flavor department.
Well, that loose burn wasn’t to bad, but I did have a bad burn through out the cigar. Could the draw caused the bad burn? Maybe, but to be honest I don’t know. The ash was a little flaky too and it could get messy from time to time. The aroma was no where to be found …. maybe it was afraid of all that damn pepper and spice.
I did not enjoy this cigar at all. Which is not a surprise, im not a big Oliva smoker. I find all of there cigars too spicy for my taste. The only Oliva cigar i do like is the Master Blends 3, I’ll take that cigar over any of the “serie” cigars.
Final Note: PASS, PASS, PASS ….. maybe put it to sleep for a while and age it. Im done with Oliva cigars, but i look forward to the next Master Blends.
Final Grade: D

I’ve always loved the Olivas – especially the V series. The O series I found nice, but for whatever reason, not quite as good as the V. The spice is a nice touch but the ones I have smoked (close to a dozen or so – mostly V’s), the spice mellowed out after 10 minutes or so. Maybe you got one “extra spicy”?
Jon
