CARLOS TORAÑO TRIBUTE 2004
Strength: Medium to Full
Wrapper: Costa Rica
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Dominican Republic
Style: Churchill
The vitola for this beautiful dark oily wrapper is a Churchill. The label is a sexy elegant black with some nice golden outlines. While feeling the cigar, I found it to be really spongy in some places, but overall it was a decent construction that could be a lot better.
While smelling the wrapper I picked up a tobacco and raisin like smell. Not to unusual, I sometimes pick up the similar smell on maduro wrappers. When checking the pre-draw I got an excellent pull and it also left a little roasted fruit on the palate. Really impressed with the pre-draw and I knew I was in for one great smoke.
From the first puff I was in heaven. As if the aroma from the light up wasn’t enough. It felt like I was smoking a cedar wood that was wrapped around leather chocolate. Past the second third I didn’t pick up anymore chocolate flavors, but the leather picks up and it adds little dashes of pepper on the finish with more of that cedar wood and roasted almonds. The tribute 2004 is one of those cigars that leaves nothing, but flavors on your palate. No harsh tobacco taste or any harmful strength on the aftertaste, just rich flavors. All in all, the flavor profile is this cigar is big and powerful. Not powerful in strength, but powerful in flavor. And the best part of all, its consistent all through out the entire cigar. It is what it is, a non stop rich maduro cigar!
From the moment you light up the cigar you’ll appreciate the aroma. Im not kidding when I say this, but it almost felt like a herf was going on at Bed, Bath and Beyond. (You know, that store that has all them girly sprays) The draw was amazing and the ash is just as good. I thought the sponginess in the cigar was going to be an issue, but this cigar turned out to be excellent in quality and construction.
This cigar is amazing. You’re going to get a rich maduro cigar, with tons of flavor and a long lasting quality smoke. And if you can find it, and if you love the richness of a maduro, and if you’re a fan of the signature, and if so far I recommended good cigars to you, you have to give this cigar a try.
Final Note: Who doesn’t want a fantastic maduro cigar? Exactly! So do yourself a flavor‘ and get your hands on this Toraño …. shit, get your hands on any Toraño!
Final Grade: A-

Damn that sounds gooooooodt! Are the ’04’s readily available? Did you do a ‘retro-hale’ with it? If so, how was it?

I picked up one of these 2008 babies at cigar store in a mall just outside of Haymarket, Virginia. I was doing some traveling and got my usual bunch of randoms, but the guy there said I should try one.
Let me now say that this is, by far, my new favorite cigar. It was incredibly smooth and tasty. I’ll be ordering several boxes.
