Arturo Fuente Añejo

ARTURO FUENTE ANEJO SHARK

Strength: Full
Wrapper: Connecticut Maduro
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
Style: No. 77 “Shark”

The wrapper on the Añejo looks amazing. It’s really dark with shades of brown and what looks like almost a darken purple color. The label is your typical elegant Arturo Fuente label, with the classic red and gold colors. And on the bottom (on the foot) you will find a red ribbon, just to let you know this cigar has “special gift” potential. (aka its very pricey)

The first initial flavors coming from the Añejo tasted to me like a plate of grilled veggies with a little wood as the dressing and a sweet roasted coffee like aftertaste. A really great start, not harsh on the palate and very rich and yet powerful. Coming towards the midway point, I picked up some salty undertones as well. Along with lots of “toasted” like flavors such as roasted chocolate and roasted nuts. After reaching the midway point, it also picks up in strength. At this point, its no longer a cigar you want to smoke a lone. You may want to pair it with a drink or some water. I got to say, it didn’t end the way I wanted it too.

The only problem I had with this cigar was the flaky ash. UGH! There’s nothing more annoying then a flaky ash, especially when your typing a review on your notebook. The burn was pretty good and the draw was beyond excellent. There’s also a very nice aroma in the air while smoking this cigar.

I’m still not crazy about the Añejo as some of you might be. It’s still a good cigar, but a little to much on the power and strength side for me. There’s no way I would ever recommend this cigar to anyone because of its price. And to be honest, to me its not priced correctly. Im still however an even bigger fan of the Opus X after smoking this cigar.

Final Note: If you’re a fan of a full body cigar with some strength, I think this cigar will be right up your alley. Especially if you have the extra “bucks” for it and if you enjoy a glass of scotch with your cigar. For everyone else, if you tend to agree with my recommendations and with my palate, id say pass on this cigar and save the extra money.

Final Grade: C

I was gifted an Añejo a while back and haven’t taken the opportunity to smoke it yet. Thanks for the heads-up regarding its strength. I’ll be sure to have some liquid nearby!

    Great review man!

Good review 15. While I believe price shouldn’t affect the rating of a cigar, it is always an important factor. With soooooo many fantastic sticks out there for under $10 and even under $5 each, I find it impossible to justify prices like these. Smoke what you like (and can afford).

    I like these a lot. What’s wrong with a $10 cigar? :-P
