GURKHA LEGEND

The other night I was on Cigar Jacks first pod cast. During the show I was smoking my first Gurkha. For some reason everyone ive talked to never has anything good to say about Gurkha’s. Some even complain that all Gurkha’s taste the same. I find that kind of weird and I need to find out on my own. So my journey into Gurkha begins with the Gurkha Legend.
The cigar is really dark with some spots almost looking black. The label is really cool looking and i love the color combination. It blends in nice with the color of the wrapper. And when it comes to presentation, this cigar is great.
As beautiful as the wrapper was, it didn’t smell the same. I got a funky wet paper bag smell on the wrapper. On the foot, it was a little better with a cinnamon and peppery smell. The cut on the pre-draw was nice, but weirdly enough, there was absolutely nothing on the pre-draw. That was the first time I didn’t get any taste on a pre-draw check.
When it comes to flavors the Gurkha Legend didn’t “wow” me, but it did enough to keep me satisfied. The dominant flavor was a roasted wood with some peppery undertones once in awhile. The flavors didn’t change at all and I can see this cigar maybe being one dimensional for some people, but I liked the roasted wood flavor and I can appreciate the consistent flavor. Yes, I do like when a cigar changes in flavor, but I’ll let it slide this time.
I do have another bone to pick with this cigar and that’s the roller coaster burn. At times it was all over the place and that can be a downer. Who wants to continuously fix a burn on a cigar? That’s right, no one does! No problems on the draw and the ash held up very nicely.
As I mentioned before, I don’t think this cigar will “wow” you. Or maybe not even give you the urge to buy another one, but it will keep you satisfied for the one time you smoke it. The same goes for me, I would smoke it again, but as a gift or a sampler pack. Do I recommend it? Why not, but don’t expect much.
Final Note: My first Gurkha experience was a okay. Not a cigar I would look for again, but it was pretty decent. And that my friends, is okay in my book.
Final Grade: C

My second favorite Gurkha, after the Ancient Warrior. I bought a fiver at JR’s a couple weeks ago. Great review!
Good review Dennis. The legend is my favorite Gurkha, but there aren’t any cigars they make that really wow me. I like the look of their perfectos. Like you say, the burn can go all over the place. I also agree that they are not very complex, but the flavor is good enough with a cup of coffee, so I pick them up in 6 packs on auction from time to time. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Mr Trotter,
So nice of you to stop by! Thanks for the comment, i look forward to the next show! I also wanted to give you a call, so we can talk about cigars and about a podcast special.
Ahh…the first Gurkha is what draws you in…but then after 15-20 of them you realize that you don’t remember what drew you to them in the first place.
